Baule Loom
Origin: Côte d’Ivoire
Culture: Baule
Period: 20th century
Materials: Wood, fiber, string
Traditional narrow-strip loom used by Baule weavers in Côte d’Ivoire. The hand-carved wooden frame holds tightly stretched vertical warp threads, secured with natural fiber bindings. The curved lower section rests against the body, allowing the weaver to control tension during the weaving process.
A fine example of West African textile craftsmanship, combining functional design with sculptural presence.
