Lot A45 - Helmet mask
Helmet mask in avian form
Wood, animal hide, fiber, metal stitching. Height: 31 cm.
Helmet-type mask carved with a smooth, domed cranium and a pronounced forward-projecting, beak-like facial ridge. The elongated face is minimally articulated, with incised almond-shaped eyes retaining traces of light pigment, small drilled nostril perforations, and a narrow horizontal mouth slit.
The rear and upper section are covered with animal hide, secured along the perimeter with vegetal fiber and metal stitching, forming a fitted helmet structure. The hide covering suggests integration into a full costume ensemble.
The wooden surface displays a deep brown to black patina with areas of wear, abrasion, and pigment loss, particularly around the eyes. The interior is hollowed and shows signs of age and use.
Condition: age-related wear, surface abrasions, pigment remnants, deterioration to hide elements; structurally stable.
