Lega mask – Bwami society

Carved wooden mask of elongated oval form with narrow slit eyes, small open mouth and a pronounced central ridge forming the nose. The restrained modeling and compact size are characteristic of masks associated with the Bwami initiation society of the Lega.
The surface shows strong age wear with encrusted patina and visible tool marks, consistent with traditional use.
