Songye Kifwebe Mask

Songye people, Democratic Republic of the Congo

Height: 63 cm

Carved wooden Kifwebe mask with pronounced central crest and angular, projecting features. The elongated face is defined by narrow slit eyes and a protruding, squared mouth element with geometric detailing. The surface is decorated with alternating bands of red, black and white pigment, creating the characteristic striated appearance associated with Kifwebe masks.

Fiber remnants are preserved along the lower edge, once forming part of the full masquerade costume.
