Item number: A112

Janiform Teke figure (Buti type)

Democratic Republic of Congo

Height: 29 cm

Carved wooden ritual figure with two opposing heads (Janiform), featuring stylized facial features, scarification marks on the cheeks and a textured coiffure. The elongated neck rises above a body wrapped in aged blue textile, forming a rounded bundle traditionally associated with ritual substances.

Figures of this type are linked to the Teke people and are often referred to as Buti figures, used in protective and spiritual contexts. The sculpture shows a rich dark patina with traces of fiber elements and clear signs of age and use.
